Launch of the Farini competition to redesign the future of the Milan Farini and Milan San Cristoforo railway stations
Milan, 22 October 2018
FS Sistemi Urbani, the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group company engaged in the valorisation of assets no longer useful for railway operation, and COIMA sgr (a company active in the investment, development and management of real estate assets on behalf of international and domestic institutional investors) launched the "Farini competition", an international selection for the drafting of the regeneration masterplan of the Farini and San Cristoforo disused railway stations in Milan (called the Farini Competition).
This is the first step in the biggest urban regeneration plan that will affect Milan in the next 20 years. The Farini competition is in fact part of the Program Agreement signed in 2017 by the Municipality of Milan, the Lombardy Region, FS Italiane (with RFI and FS Sistemi Urbani) and Savills Investment Management (today COIMA) for the redevelopment of the seven abandoned Milanese railway stations (Farini, Porta Romana, Porta Genova, Greco-Breda, Lambrate, Rogoredo and San Cristoforo), which together occupy an area of 1 million 250 thousand square meters, of which only 200 thousand will remain with railway functions.
The competition was presented today in Milan by Pierfrancesco Maran Councillor for Urban Planning, Green and Agriculture of the City of Milan, Carlo De Vito President of FS Sistemi Urbani, Manfredi Catella Founder & CEO COIMA, Livia Pomodoro President of the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera, and Leopoldo Freyrie responsible for the competition.
The master plan must offer orientation solutions for the transformation and reconversion of spaces no longer used for railway operations in Milan Farini and Milan San Cristoforo. A high-profile and expert jury will select the best master plan that will then be submitted for public debate before the project is implemented. Multidisciplinary teams can participate in the international selection.
The deadline for submitting proposals is 23 November 2018. The notice can be downloaded from scalimilano.vision.
