Val di Riga variant

Val di Riga variant

The project involves the construction of a direct link (bypass) between the Val Pusteria (Fortezza – San Candido) and the Brenner railway lines.

Plans also include the construction of two new stops at Varna and Naz-Sciaves, as well as a new and more efficient track layout at Bressanone station. The project has the advantage of eliminating the need for trains coming from Val Pusteria to turn around at the Fortezza station, and of providing a direct link between Val Pusteria, Bressanone and Bolzano. Consequently, it will be possible to increase rail transport capacity and achieve a significant reduction in journey times as well as a wide range of options for interconnections between different transport modes. The project has received complete public funding, including NRRP funds.

Aldo Isi was appointed Government Commissioner for the completion of the works.

Advantages

  • The project will reduce journey times from Val Pusteria to and from Bressanone and Bolzano by just under 15 minutes;
  • Improved network accessibility.
