The project envisages the realisation in stages of the track-doubling of about 19 kilometres alongside the existing track of the Ponte San Pietro-Bergamo-Montello line.

The first phase consists of the doubling of the Curno-Bergamo section, the upgrading of Ponte San Pietro station and the construction of the ACC-M in Bergamo and Ponte San Pietro.

The second phase includes the doubling of the Bergamo-Montello section. In addition, the removal of all level crossings along the line and the construction of replacement ones is planned.

The intervention will increase the services of the Bergamo Junction.

Vera Fiorani was appointed Extraordinary Governmental Commissioner for completion of the works.

Advantages

Increase of the theoretical permissible capacity on the track being doubled from the current 4 trains/hour to 10 trains/hour in both directions;
Reduced travel time.
