Augusta Port and Bypass

Augusta Port and Bypass

The project envisages the realisation of two operations in the Augusta area, the first concerning a railway beltway connecting the new railway park in the Port of Augusta to the national railway network, whilst the second is a variant of the route along the Messina-Syracuse line that bypasses the urban centre of Augusta. There are also plans to build a new station outside the town centre.

Filippo Palazzo was appointed Extraordinary Governmental Commissioner for completion of the works.

Advantages

  • The Augusta variant eliminates the interference between the National Railway Infrastructure and the urban fabric of the city of the same name.
  • Increasing rail-ship intermodality and developing freight traffic with provisional characteristics in line with TEN-T network standards.
