Trenitalia’s first Rock train for Lazio is here

Operating on the FL1 Orte-Fiumicino Airport and the FL3 Roma-Viterbo lines

Rome, 23 November 2020

A third of the 65 new Trenitalia (FS Italiane Group) Rock trains is here to renew Lazio’s regional fleet. Starting today, the Rock comes into service on the FL1 Orte-Fiumicino Airport and FL3 Roma-Viterbo lines, offering a better quality of travel.

More trains are on their way.

In addition to the 65 new Rock trains – designed and constructed for the new generations, in the FS Italiane Group’s multi-year investment programme, as part of an agreement with the Lazio Region – are 4 more 200-kilometre/hour trains and 3 bimodal trains that will totally renew the travelling fleet, bringing the average age of the convoys to 6 years as of 2024.

The new trains are part of the Long-term Service Contracts that Trenitalia signed with the individual regions, thus ensuring significant investments with positive consequences for the service quality and for the entire Italian industrial sector. Trenitalia continues its contribution during this difficult time for the nation, convinced that things will improve very soon.

A strong focus on intermodality

New trains and more. Great attention has also been paid to the theme of interconnection between the various means of transport, with the aim of enhancing the local public service thanks to the many intermodal links present in Lazio. Amongst these also the new train+bus connections between Ferentino-Supino station and the town of Fumone as well as between the Frosinone station and downtown Frosinone, in operation since 16 November last year.

The Rock

Designed with the latest-generation technologies, the new conveys are environmentally-sustainable, spacious and reduce fuel consumption by 30% compared to prior trains and are composed of 97% recyclable material. In addition, up to 18 bicycles can be transported within.
