Update at 17.45 - RFI, adverse weather: tomorrow railway traffic returning to normal service

Further improvements are expected tomorrow concerning railway traffic.

In light of the weather bulletin issued by the Civil Defence body, 100% of high-speed trains scheduled by the railway companies and the entire regional transport schedule will be guaranteed in most regions.

Snowfall and ice are expected in lower Piedmont, Liguria, Emilia Romagna, and Veneto: in these regions around 80% of trains will be running.

The reduction is necessary to ensure regularity of scheduled railway service.

Today traffic continued according to the predetermined plan, in some regions even more trains were running than expected. In Tuscany, on the Florence - Prato and on the Florence - Empoli lines, there were some delays due to the formation of ice on the power lines.

RFI will continue to provide updates on the current situation and any planned measures.

Update at 17.00 - RFI, Lazio: regional railway traffic returning to normal service

Regional rail traffic in Lazio is returning to normal.

During the day there were no particularly disruptive issues, and as of late morning, almost all train services began to circulate as scheduled.

On the Milan-Rome-Naples line, 80% of high-speed trains are currently running.

Update at 15.30 - RFI, adverse weather: more regional trains running than intended by emergency plan

More regional trains are running than originally scheduled by the adverse weather plan.

Regional railway traffic in Northern and Central Italy continues without any particular disruptions, in accordance with the plan defined by the Italian Railway Network's Snow and Ice Plan.

In some regions of the Alps and Lazio, trains are circulating in greater numbers, ensuring more connections for travellers. Over the next few hours, and for the afternoon commuter belt, a further increase in scheduled trains is expected, consistent with the weather conditions.

On the Milan-Rome-Naples route, 80% of high-speed trains are currently circulating. This morning, an average delay of 60 minutes was recorded due to the breakdown of three convoys on the Milan-Rome line.

Information on cancelled routes and alternative travel solutions is available on the railway companies' communication channels.

Based on current weather forecasts, we anticipate that the railway traffic situation will return to normal from tomorrow, Friday 2 March. In the coming hours, RFI will meet with the transport companies to establish a circulation plan for the next few days on the basis of the weather bulletin released by the Civil Defence body.

RFI will continue to provide updates on the current situation and any planned measures.

Update at 10.30 - RFI, North, and Central Italy: regional railway traffic without particular disruptions

Regional railway traffic in Northern and Central Italy is running without any particular disruptions, in accordance with the Snow and Ice Emergency Plan.

In the Alpine regions, in accordance with evolving meteorological conditions, trains are running at a higher frequency than defined by the plan, guaranteeing more connections.

In particular, in Lombardy, this has been possible thanks to the completion of works, within the established times, at the Pioltello station. The reactivation of the Milan - Brescia express tracks has in fact enabled the restoration of full railway capacity.

On the Milan-Rome-Naples route, 80% of high-speed trains are currently running. There were 30 minute delays due to the breakdown of two trains, which are currently being resolved.

Based on current weather forecasts, we estimate that railway traffic will return to normal starting Friday, 2nd March.

RFI will continue to provide updates on the current situation and any resulting planned measures.
