Rome, 13 October 2017
Twenty-eight young people have been chosen by the FS Italiane Group to join the company. 43% of them are women.
These young people, from all regions of Italy, were the protagonists of the third edition of the FS Competition-#MoveYourTalent, an idea competition held by FS Italiane to find the best engineering (electronics, mechanics, telecommunications, IT) and economics students and graduates in the whole of Italy.
The 70 finalists, selected after two months of online challenges with three serious game involving around 2,000 young people, took part in onsite challenges with escape rooms and digital case studies, followed by interviews with FS Italiane recruiters during the final phase of the competition, held in Rome on 11 and 12 October.
Renato Mazzoncini, CEO and MD of FS Italiane, commented that "FS Competition 2017-#MoveYourTalent offered young people an important opportunity to find out about the world of collective mobility, and rail transport in particular. It was an opportunity to pick up talented young people capable of generating value and innovation, fundamental for achieving the ambitious goals of the 2017-2026 Business Plan with which we aim to become a leading European player in the integrated collective mobility market. For the third year running, we were named Best Employer of Choice among the companies graduates aspire to," he continued. This kind of initiative allows us to further boost engagement among young people, offering them a fun, stimulating experience that can orientate them towards the world of work and reduce the gap between universities and companies".
Freccialink and Leonardo Express were the winning groups in the FS Competition 2017. They created the most innovative projects, assessed on their originality, feasibility and sustainability.
The Fast Intelligence Maintenance (FIM) project, which took first place, was created by the Freccialink team to improve the time taken to resolve faults on the rail line using an app integrated with the Systeme, Anwendungen, Produkte in der Datenverarbeitung (SAP)* system. The main goal is to improve efficiency, increase infrastructure availability and reduce disservice costs. The app gives maintenance operators real-time technical support and information, thereby increasing internal customer satisfaction. The second place was awarded to the FS-SMART project by the Leonardo Express team, which proposed a single, multi-service pay-as-you-go card for accessing the various transport types. The result is a fast and simple way to remove the need for customers to queue at the ticket office.
The FrecciaLink team was offered a two-day stay with free entry to the National Rail Museum at Pietrarsa (NA). Both the winners, FrecciaLink, and the second placed Leonardo Express team, were given vouchers to travel on the Trenitalia fleet.
28 young people won the best surprise prize of all: the chance to join the FS Italiane Group, according to the needs of the various business areas. Moreover, the other participants in the competition could also be contacted for future job opportunities.
