An App to help you move around the station arrives at Milan Central

A new web app helps people move around the station in Milan and quickly identify the location of the more important services available

Milan, 5 August 2015

Thanks to a simple interface available in nine languages, this service – available through the Milan Central Station Wi-Fi network – ensures that you can find your position on a georeferenced map showing all the areas in the station, look for the Point of Interest you require (lifts, escalators, ticket offices, left-luggage office, Sala Blu, tracks, etc.) and see how to get there.

This app is particularly innovative as it does not use satellite data, which are blocked by the station’s walls, but that from the Wi-Fi network set up by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana also available to passengers.

“In Stazione” is just one of the many services made available by Gruppo FS Italiane to passengers, rail companies and economic operators at Milan Central, Milan Porta Garibaldi and Rho Fiera Expo Milano 2015 stations through the “WiFi Station” virtual portal.

It entails an intelligent, immediate and user-friendly Wi-Fi service that exceeds the simple concept of access to a wireless network. A direct channel of communication with travellers via a mobile browser on the one hand provides Wi-Fi in stations and, on the other, unites services and news from various channels in a single web environment. Stations thereby become smart stations.

WiFi Station can also be used to access arrival and departure boards and apps and websites relating to travel (Trenitalia - ProntoTreno for Android -, ViaggiaTreno, FSNews Radio and Trainscovery) or Expo Milano 2015 (Expo and Territori) and to share news or events via Gruppo FS Italiane social profiles, as well as to see weather forecasts on smartphones.
