2 June: FS stations celebrate with Army bands and fanfares

Deputy Minister for Infrastructures and Transport Riccardo Nencini and Gruppo FS Italiane CEO Elia at Florence Santa Maria Novella Station

Rome, 1 June 2015

The Anniversary of the Italian Republic was celebrated by music in the main railway stations throughout Italy.

Italian Army Bands contemporaneously performed in Bari Central, Florence Santa Maria Novella, Naples Central, Palermo Central, Reggio Calabria, Rome Termini and Trieste stations at 11.30am on 2 June 2015.

This was a way to commemorate the Anniversary of the Italian Republic in the exact places that, like important railway hubs, played a fundamental role in the extensive reconstruction of Italy once the Second World War ended.

This initiative was promoted by Gruppo Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane alongside the Ministry for Infrastructures and Transport and the Ministry of Defence.

Representatives from local authorities attended at each of the above stations, with the Deputy Minister of Infrastructures and Transport Riccardo Nencini and Gruppo FS Italiane CEO Michele Mario Elia attending the event at Florence Santa Maria Novella Station.
