Turin – Milan, 16 October 2015

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, travelling on the Frecciarossa 1000 from Torino (Turin) Porta Susa to Rho Fiera Milano Expo 2015.

For the first time, the UN’s chief administrative officer will be a passenger on an Italian train, which left the Piedmont Region’s Porta Susa station at 10:10 a.m. to reach the Milanese capital at 10:47 a.m., so that he could pay a visit to the World Expo, where he would be welcomed by the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella.

The Foreign Minister, Paolo Gentiloni, the city’s Mayor  Piero Fassino, and the CEO of the Italian State Railways, Michele Mario Elia, who had travelled together, were on hand in Torino (Turin) to do the honours, welcoming the United Nations’ Top Representative riding on the most beautiful train in the world.

During his brief journey, Ban Ki-moon had wanted to visit the cockpit of the Frecciarossa 1000 that was travelling at a speed of 300 Km/h.

The Frecciarossa 1000 and the Milan Expo 2015 represent two Italian success stories that have acted as major protagonists for the FS Italiane Group.

Since the beginning of this event the Frecce belonging to Trenitalia have transported more than 10 million visitors who went to see the exhibition in Milan.

This prototype for the Milan Expo 2015 is something that could ideally be used in Rome for the upcoming Jubilee of Mercy celebration.
