Rome, 5 January 2026

A theatre man and beloved actor by Director Paolo Sorrentino, Toni Servillo stars in La Grazia, where he plays a fictional President of the Italian Republic, torn between rigour and humanity. The film, in theatres from 15 January, was written years before filming began. According to the actor, this was in no way a loss, but rather an advantage, as he was able to shape this character and be in his company for such a lengthy period.

Projects that are born from great visions do take a long time to become reality. Just like FS Group's 2025-2029 Next Level Strategic Plan, whose update, presented on 11 December 2025, confirmed a clear trajectory: optimising rail and road networks, improving service quality, and developing an infrastructure that can support more responsible and sustainable mobility options. Its first year of implementation, with EUR 18 billion invested and 241 new trains and buses, proved that this vision can turn into measurable structural changes. CEO and General Manager Stefano Antonio Donnarumma talks about it in this issue.

One of the January destinations is L'Aquila, Italy's Capital of Culture 2026, representing a territory that encompasses the Abruzzo, Lazio, Umbria and Marche regions. Another suggestion is Taranto, with its historic centre set on becoming the new Ortigia, and its archaeological museum in the new city district. Then the Aosta Valley, Piedmont, Lombardy and Trentino-Alto Adige, for an accessible skiing holiday. And finally, a tour of the Langa Astigiana, where the Roccaverano DOP cheese and the Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG wine are made.

The magazine features also interviews with leading personalities in entertainment and culture, from Sergio Rubini and a restored version of his debut-film as director in 1990 - The Station - to Giorgio Pasotti’s theatre comeback with the biopic Rosso Volante, and Marco D'Amore, creator of the series Gomorra - Le origini. There is also room for Giulia Vecchio, presenter of Hot Ones Italia, and Arisa, who will bring the song Magica favola to Sanremo. And then Alessandra Viola, in bookstores with Piante da record.

And on an end note, the cultural events. An exhibit in Padua rejoins 65 artworks by 30 avant-garde artists, including Pablo Picasso and Amedeo Modigliani. Meanwhile, Manifesti d'artista at the Mole Antonelliana’s National Cinema Museum in Turin, provides a journey through the iconic posters of famous international films.

All this and more in the January issue of La Freccia, available in digital format on FS Italiane and in print on Trenitalia’s Frecce trains, in the FRECCIALounge and in FRECCIAClubs.
