Genova-Acqui Line: The new modern and comfortable double-decker electric trains in service since Monday

  • Four trains a day on the busiest routes, gradually increasing after the summer
  • Following the completion of the upgrade works on the automatic track spacing system

From Monday 4 May, the new double-decker electric trains will be active on Trenitalia’s Regionale services (FS Group) on the Genova–Acqui Terme Line. These state-of-the-art trains will provide greater comfort, accessibility and on-board services to passengers.

The service was launched after the upgrade works on the track spacing system - carried out by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (FS Group) as part of the ongoing investment in infrastructure modernisation - were completed.

The new trains feature bright, functional and air-conditioned interiors, ergonomic seats, and a more efficient layout to facilitate passenger flows on board. The units feature power sockets and USB ports, passenger information systems, and a video security system that improves on-board and passenger safety.

Following the infrastructure upgrade, the on-board electronics on the new trains will be fully exploited. In this initial phase, the trains will run four services per day, on the lines with the highest passenger numbers. The number of services will be gradually increased after the summer, as the service timetable is finalised and operations are consolidated.

Accessibility was one of the focuses when the trains were designed, with the goal of making boarding and alighting easier, and facilitate movement within the carriage, plus dedicated areas and features that make travel easier for people with reduced mobility and for those travelling with pushchairs or bicycles.

The introduction of double-decker electric trains on the Genova–Acqui line is part of a wider drive to improve regional transport, with investment in rolling stock and technological infrastructure to make the service increasingly modern, reliable and environmentally friendly, for the benefit of commuters and travellers alike.
