FS Group - Lombardia: extraordinary plan for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games

  • One direct Frecciarossa connection to Malpensa Airport, and over 400 buses per day reaching the Olympic venues
  • FS Security engaged daily at the main Lombardy stations and lines
  • RFI operators monitoring the railway lines to facilitate mobility and safety

Milan, 6 February 2026

FS Italiane Group puts an extraordinary plan in place in Lombardy, to ensure greater mobility and safety during the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

MORE FRECCIAROSSA AND FRECCIALINK CONNECTIONS

On the weekends between 7 February and 15 March 2026, direct Frecciarossa connections to the Malpensa Airport will be available from Milan and Venice/Udine.

And between 31 January - 23 February and 28 February - 16 March 2026 - even after the Games end - the intermodal FrecciaLink “train+bus” services will guarantee daily connections with Cortina d'Ampezzo and Cadore, Tesero and Predazzo. Cortina d’Ampezzo will be connected to major cities, such as Milan, Naples, Rome, Florence, Bologna and Padua, with further connections by bus from Venezia Mestre. And Val di Fiemme will be connected to Rome, Florence, Bologna and Verona, by getting off at the Ora station (Bolzano), and reaching Tesero - with a new FrecciaLink stop - and Predazzo by bus.

TRENITALIA AND BUSITALIA FOR ATHLETES

Around 50 charter trains and more than 400 buses per day will be provided for athletes, sport crews and accredited personnel travelling to the Olympic venues. More than 50,000 reserved seats will also be available for the event on high-speed trains on the main routes involved, and along the Milano-Venezia and Milano-Trento lines in particular.

ENHANCED FS SECURITY SAFEGUARDS

FS Security also expands its staff. Its personnel will be operational on a daily basis, with 100 people carrying out monitoring and ground control activities, and operators constantly present at strategic points in Lombardy railway stations. During the most intense phases, between the Olympics closing ceremony and the Paralympic opening event, FS Security's personnel involved will reach 140 people. The constant presence of FS Security personnel represents an effective model of vigilance and prevention, confirming FS Group's commitment to the protection of travellers and the management of large events with a high turnout.

Finally, 600 technicians from Rete Ferroviaria Italiana and its Contractors will preside over and monitor the railway lines for the entire duration of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
