FS Group: The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella visits the “Le ferrovie d’Italia (1861-2025). Dall’unità nazionale alle sfide del futuro” exhibition

Rome, 5 November 2025

Today, the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella paid a preview visit to the “Le ferrovie d'Italia (1861-2025). Dall’unità nazionale alle sfide del futuro” (Italian Railways (1861-2025). From National Unity to Future Challenges) exhibition.

The exhibition, promoted and organised by VIVE - Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia and FS Italiane Group, will be open to the public from Friday 7 November until 11 January, in the Sala Zanardelli of the Vittoriano and in the Giardino Grande of Palazzo Venezia.

Accompanying the President of the Republic were the Chairman of FS Group Tommaso Tanzilli, the Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of FS Group Stefano Antonio Donnarumma, and the General Director of VIVE Edith Gabrielli, curator of the exhibition.

The initiative is part of the celebrations for the 120th anniversary of the founding of Ferrovie dello Stato in 1905, during the Giolitti era. Since then, Ferrovie dello Stato has accompanied every phase of  Italian history: from the World Wars to reconstruction, from the economic boom to globalisation, and on to the current challenges between technology and sustainability.

The exhibition illustrates the world of railways from different, intertwined perspectives. Charts, documents, pictures and works of art interact dynamically, giving the public a lively and engaging account of train travel and the history of our country.
