Turin, 3 November 2025
Promoting research, dissemination, training and enhancement projects and initiatives targeted at our archaeological and cultural heritage, for artefacts discovered during railway and road works.
This is the purpose of the Memorandum of Understanding stipulated between the Fondazione Museo delle Antichità Egizie in Turin and Archeolog, FS Group’s Third-Sector Organization - comprising RFI, Italferr, Anas and Quadrilatero Marche and Umbria. The Organization, in conjunction with the Superintendencies of the Ministry of Culture, is instrumental in the restoration, conservation and enhancement of valuable archaeological findings, uncovered during construction and maintenance works along the Italian road and rail infrastructure.
The agreement was signed by the Director of the Museo Egizio of Turin, Christian Greco, and the President of Third Sector Organization Archeolog, Ilaria Maggiorotti.
The joint projects will be scientifically supervised and curated by the Museo Egizio, with regard to the material selection, interpretation and communication phases. The Museum will provide its valuable know-how to help develop widespread museum itineraries and micro-museums, educational programmes, and digital and multimedia content.
Founded in 1824 in Turin, the Museo Egizio is world’s the oldest museum devoted entirely to ancient Egyptian culture. It is internationally recognised as a world-class hub for research, conservation and scientific outreach in the field of Egyptian archaeology. Its Fondazione promotes an innovative museum model, geared toward an inclusive enhancement of heritage, the construction of a civic pride through culture, and the experimentation of participatory educational and narrative strategies, strongly rooted in the territory coupled with an international vocation.
Archeolog is the organisation established to contribute to the restoration, conservation and enhancement of the precious archaeological findings uncovered by RFI, Italferr, Anas and Quadrilatero in over a century of planning, construction and maintenance works on the current 50K km of national road and rail network. Archeolog's mission has been streamlined through the Memorandum of Understanding renewed with the Ministry of Culture in 2024, which promotes joined projects with Superintendencies, to safeguard and provide access to the archaeological assets uncovered.
FS Group and Archeolog are committed to give this unprecedented cultural heritage back to the country, nurturing a virtuous dialogue between modern infrastructures and historical root enhancement, while ensuring a sustainable construction of new railway lines, and safeguarding the historical wealth of the territories they cross.
