Recognising violence is the first step to stopping it. On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, FS Group confirms its commitment to opposing all forms of gender abuse, discrimination and oppression and to spreading a culture of respect as an essential and identifying value.
The façades of thirty railway stations, from North to South Italy, and the FS Group headquarters will be lit up in red to condemn violence, abuse and femicide, while the Group headquarters will host a display of red shoes placed by FS women and men united in the common fight against gender violence.
Two red benches will also be inaugurated tomorrow at the Milano Smistamento facility by FS Logistix and in Florence Santa Maria Novella by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana.
This year, FS Group, in collaboration with Fondazione Libellula, has created a practical and empowering guide with the aim of raising awareness about the different forms that violence can take, from the most obvious to the most silent and everyday ones - psychological, economic, physical and sexual violence, stalking and cyberviolence. An effective picture [BA1] offers concrete tools to those who wish to act, on behalf of themselves or someone else, in an informed, respectful and incisive manner.
There are four signs that can help understand whether a person lives in a potentially dangerous or controlling relational context: devaluation and humiliation are the first indicators of possible violence expressed in insults, criticism, blaming or disparaging comments that undermine self-esteem and make a person feel inadequate; social isolation, with progressive distancing from family, friends and support networks; control over everyday life and the ordinary management of money, clothing or work, with constant surveillance of electronic devices; and, finally, threats and physical signs of ill-treatment.
If you suspect that a woman is experiencing violence and you recognise some of these signs, you can intervene by calling the emergency numbers shown in the picture, which also illustrates the Sign of Help, a silent gesture to ask for help in cases of domestic violence, even when words are not a viable option.
FS Group has recently obtained the Gender Equality Certification, which confirms its commitment to valuing differences and uniqueness and promoting an inclusive and fair corporate culture. In 2017, the Group introduced its own Code of Conduct concerning sexual harassment in the workplace, and in 2020 it set up a listening desk to support all workers active in the prevention of harassment.
