Italferr (FS Group), India: activated five new stations for the Kanpur Metro

FS Group’s project launched in 2020, in partnership with Typsa to improve the country's mobility

Rome, 4 June 2025

The international development of Italferr - an FS Group company operating in the field of transport engineering - continues. One of the latest goals is to improve mobility in India and make it more efficient, by expanding the commercial metro service in the city of Kanpur. Five new stops were activated on the line from Moti Jheel station to Kanpur Central station: Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha, Nayaganj and Kanpur Central.

The new Kanpur metro line will run through two main routes: the first from Kanpur to Naubasta (23.785 kilometres) and the second from Agricultural University to Barra (8.60 kilometres), with a total length of approximately 32 kilometres. The Agra metro line will also feature two routes connecting Sikandra to Taj East Gate (14 kilometres) and Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar (16.20 kilometres), respectively, for a total length of about 30 kilometres.

The project - Italferr's largest in India - began in 2020 in partnership with the Spanish engineering company Typsa, through the awarding of the Project Management Consulting contract for the Kanpur & Agra metro in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The overall plan will concern the construction of four routes, with a total length of 62.6 kilometres divided between the Kanpur Metro Kanpur and the Agra Metro, and including 57 stations and four depots. The aim is contributing to the development of urban mobility in India, by connecting the Kanpur Central station with an area with key services for the community, such as markets, schools and hospitals.
