Catanzaro, 19 May 2025

Calabria is at the heart of the Data Protection Authority’s new project. On 21 and 22 May, the Regional Citadel hosted the event "For digital equity: countering gender bias in the processing of personal data", organised with the support and collaboration of FS Group. Two days of studies and insights to promote a culture of the value of personal data and the responsible use of new technologies.

The initiative of the Italian Data Protection Authority - which picks up and relaunches the themes of the Privacy Tour - will involve a wide and transversal audience with institutional representatives and prominent professionals from the academic, associative and business sectors. The Board of the Authority were present, with Chairman Pasquale Stanzione, the Vice-Chairwoman Ginevra Cerrina Feroni, and Members Agostino Ghiglia and Guido Scorza.

During the conference, the Department of Mechanical, Energetic and Management Engineering of the University of Calabria, in collaboration with the Department of Mechanics, Mathematics and Management of the Polytechnic University of Bari, presented their scientific research, analysing recruiters' perceptions on the role of artificial intelligence in personnel selection processes. In particular, the study investigated the level of awareness of recruiters with respect to gender bias and the trust placed in AI systems as tools to ensure impartiality and inclusion. Prof. Salvatore Ammirato, Scientific Head of Giudalab at the University of Calabria, presented the study, while for the FS Group Felice Lo Gatto, HR PM Office Transformation & Analytics, reflected on the issues that emerged from the research. Speakers included Aldo Ferrara (President of Unindustria Calabria), Valter Quercioli (National President of Federmanager) Gianluigi Greco (University of Calabria and President of the Associazione Italiana per l’Intelligenza Artificiale), Pierpaolo Pontrandolfo (Bari Polytechnic and President of the Associazione Italiana Ingegneria Gestionale), Marcello Ravveduto (Scientific Committee of Fondazione Magna Grecia).
