The EU: FS Italiane supports the proposed free Interrail pass for eighteen-year-olds

FS Italiane welcomes the proposal being discussed today at the European Parliament for a free Interrail pass for all European eighteen-year-olds.

This pass would let them travel all over Europe for one month.

“The proposed Interrail pass for eighteen-year-olds”, emphasised the CEO and Director General of the FS Italiane Group, Renato Mazzoncini, “would be very valuable. This decision could make a concrete contribution to forging young European citizens, helping them feel part of a single large community. After all, in the last few decades, Interrail passes have helped millions of young people explore Europe, showing them the intrinsic rich diversity in the concept of Europe. The FS Italiane Group welcomes this proposal because we are convinced about the important role which rail networks play in connecting Europe and bringing individual countries closer together. A value which is one of the key issues of our new Industrial Plan 2017-2026. We hope this initiative gets the go-ahead as soon as possible and we are ready and willing to study its technical details with the European Commission”.

The proposal will be submitted today in Strasbourg during the plenary sitting of the European Parliament by Manfred Weber, leader of the European People’s Party (EPP). The project is also supported by the Greens and the Socialists.
