FS supports Italian Cuisine’s nomination as a Intangible World Heritage with Leonardo Express

Rome, 1 August 2025

The presentation of the new livery on the Leonardo Express, to support Italian cuisine’s nomination as UNESCO Intangible World Heritage was held today, on platform 1 of the Roma Ostiense station. The direct train that connects Roma Termini Station with Fiumicino's Leonardo da Vinci International Airport in half an hour is the perfect opportunity for FS Group and Trenitalia to be an active part of the initiative carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry (MASAF).

The event was attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Francesco Lollobrigida, and FS Group Chairman, Tommaso Tanzilli.

More than any other train, the Leonardo Express represents the beginning of a journey. Not just towards a destination, but rather within the essence and beauty of our country’, said FS Group Chairman, Tommaso Tanzilli. ‘The revamped graphic design we see today is inspired by one of the greatest treasures of our heritage: the culture of food. A heritage that goes well beyond flavours and products, to include knowledge, age-old traditions and people who have been passing on stories and values for generations. Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane is proud to be at the Ministry's side in this important challenge, and the train, with its ability to connect territories, should no longer be seen as a mere means of transport, but rather an ambassador of Italian taste and of our identity.’

‘We are engaged in Italian cuisine’s nomination as UNESCO Intangible World Heritage and for its cultural recognition, because our cuisine represents an authentic expression of our arts, quality, research and contaminations that have enriched our territory for thousands of years’ - said the Minister of Agriculture Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Francesco Lollobrigida - ‘It is thanks to this shared heritage that Italy has been able to transform influences from all over the world into its unique identity, giving life to that Made in Italy recognised everywhere as a symbol of beauty, goodness and value. With this in mind, the promotion by Ferrovie dello Stato will help us tell Italy’s story through a language that unites us all: food. And this value is not just cultural, it is financial as well. It affects production chains, businesses, tourism, catering and industry, generating wealth and opportunities.’
