Gallarate-Rho line

Gallarate-Rho line

The project involves the expansion of the Gallarate-Rho-Parabiago section in two phases. The first is the quadrupling of the Rho-Parabiago section with an extension of approximately 8 kilometres and the construction of a connection to Malpensa Airport through the construction of a beltway (Junction Y) between the RFI line and the Ferrovie Nord Milano line at the Busto Arsizio station.

The second is the tripling of the Parabiago-Gallarate section by about 23 kilometres.

Work on the General Regulatory Plan is also planned for the Rho station, along with the establishment of the new Nerviano stop and the adaptation of the Parabiago station.

Vera Fiorani was appointed Extraordinary Governmental Commissioner for completion of the works.

Advantages

  • The project will allow for an overall increase in capacity from 10 trains/hour/direction on the current line to 24 trains/hour/direction on the two lines overall until Parabiago.
  • At the same time, the regularity of traffic will also be improved through the specialisation of traffic on the two lines.
