This Sustainability Policy identifies the principles that inspire the work of the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group for the responsible management of its impacts, both towards the communities in which it operates and towards its people.

Aware of the central role of the mobility sector for responsible growth, we intend to contribute to improving the quality of life and the territories we pass through, developing integrated and efficient transport infrastructures and modes.

In line with the above, the activities of the FS Italiane Group are carried out in compliance with the ten principles of Global Compact of the United Nations, a voluntary initiative for sharing values of sustainability (human rights, work, the environment and the fight against corruption). We are therefore committed to a continuous improvement process, monitoring progress, publicly reporting the results and actively involving our stakeholders.

The 7 Principles of the Sustainability Policy

Shared value creation

We are committed to reconciling economic objectives with social and environmental ones, generating value for the company, for stakeholders and for the areas in which we operate, valuing positive externalities and avoiding or minimising negative ones.

Community and stakeholder engagement

We work with a view to sustainable development through a systematic process of stakeholder engagement: analysis of the business area in which we operate, identification of stakeholder needs and their involvement.

Safety for travellers and workers

We are committed to ensuring an increasingly high level of health and safety in every activity that involves risks for employees, travellers and the community, also by consolidating the culture of risk management and prevention.

Service Quality

All of our endeavours are under the umbrella of an organisational logic focused on customers, focusing on the quality provided and that perceived, in order to improve the experience in a logic of public satisfaction.

Human resource value

We are committed to always putting the largest asset of the Group at the centre of our daily life: our people, with their value, their differences and their rights. We are committed to involving them and developing their skills and know-how, promoting information and training activities at all organisational levels. We are committed to ensuring that recruitment, training, development and career advancement are based on merit and without any form of discrimination. We consider integrity an essential element for the Group and in any case discourage corruption practices.

Efficient use of resources and environmental protection

We are committed to promoting the efficient use of energy resources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, through the implementation of high energy-efficiency technologies and the promotion of renewable sources. In order to minimise the impact of our activities on the environment, we promote the adoption, right from the design stages, of an LCA logic in all processes, with particular attention to water consumption, waste and the prevention of soil pollution. We encourage our suppliers to improve their environmental performance and, where possible, direct and support them in their improvement process.

Respect for Human Rights

We are committed to ensuring respect for human rights in our activities, working within the framework of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and between suppliers and business partners, contributing to the creation of a responsible supply chain. We reject any form of irregular work and promote policies aimed at the psychophysical well-being of personnel.
