Bussoleno-Avigliana-Orbassano

Bussoleno-Avigliana-Orbassano

The project envisages the construction of a new line as a variant of the route from Avigliana to the Orbassano transport hub, for a total development of some 24 kilometres, of which about 17 kilometres is in tunnels. Preliminary work is also planned for restoring operation of the Orbassano transport hub along with enhancing the performance of the existing Bussoleno-Avigliana line through technological upgrading, adaptation to the technical specifications of interoperability, the elimination of certain level crossings, the construction of two new signalling controls and the acoustic restoration of the line.

Calogero Mauceri was appointed Extraordinary Governmental Commissioner for completion of the works.

Advantages

  • The project shall see an overall increase in capacity from 10 trains/hour/direction on the current line to 20 trains/hour/direction on the two lines overall.
  • The regularity of traffic will also be improved through the specialisation of traffic on the two lines.
  • For the long-distance trains that will run on the new line, a reduction in journey times may also be achieved.
  • Possibility of managing trains up to 750 metres long in the Turin-Orbassano facility.
