Focus on the Planet also turns towards sustainable and human-friendly mobility: more and more people are choosing means that are shared and have a lower polluting impact when travelling for work and pleasure, with the train and the bicycle taking on ever important roles as protagonists.

The FS Italiane Group has long been at the forefront of boosting green, gentle and integrated tourism that renders integration between the train and two wheelers a stimulus for rediscovering the territories and the landscape, enriched by the historical, cultural, food and wine riches of our country. By increasing the services in line with cycling, those who use the train for longer journeys can also avail of bicycles, electric scooters and other ecological vehicles for the first and the last mile connecting their home and the stations.

Many bike routes reachable by train are the covered in the latest Trenitalia Travel Book, which contains 20 itineraries enriched by photographs, maps and routes for all levels of difficulty, useful details, tourist information, as well as the historical and artistic attractions and an outline of the typical products. Each Ciclovía is introduced by a brief description and in-depth details with an indication of the railway stations of reference.

One example of a green trip is that dedicated to Friuli Venezia Giulia, between Trieste and Tarvisio, passing through the marvellous Aquileia –with two new carriages specially equipped for transporting up to 128 bicycles, operating each Saturday and Sunday along five regional links.

This small encyclopaedia of Italian beauties represents an opportunity for travellers to establish direct contact with nature, history and culture thanks to the integration of train and bike.
