On 17 and 18 February 2020, Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, in collaboration with Agenzia ICE and Confindustria, supported the organisation in Italy of the mission of a delegation from Canada—formed by government agencies (the City of Edmonton and Translink) together with engineering and consulting companies (Leading Mobility, AECOM and NoRR)—to further business and collaboration opportunities in the Canadian infrastructure sector.
The first day of meetings took place at the headquarters of ANCE (Associazione Nazionale Costruttori Edili, being the Italian Association of private construction contractors) in Rome, in the presence of Vice President Federico Ghella, the Ambassador of Canada to Italy, Alexandra Bugailiskis, the Ambassador of Italy to Canada Claudio Taffuri, and representatives of ICE in Canada and Italy, Matteo Picariello, Giovanni Rodia and Elisa Salazar.
On the Italian side, the first morning saw the presentation of the sector associations (ANIE, Assifer and OICE) and the FS Italiane Group, as a key player in rail transport and mobility in Italy. The Canadian delegation, rather, illustrated the main local rail and subway projects (for Toronto, Vancouver and Edmonton in particular), to the great interest of the companies in the industry.
Bilateral meetings were held during the afternoon session. Taking part on behalf of FS Italiane were FS International, Italferr and Italcertifer, offering a transversal approach aimed at enhancing the synergies and complementarity between the competences of the various Group companies.
The second day was dedicated to technical visits, during which the Canadian delegation also toured the rolling stock testing laboratory and the RFI-Italcertifer infrastructure in Osmannoro, in the province of Florence. The visit ended with the trip on a Florence-Milan Frecciarossa, during which delegates also had the opportunity to visit the driver’s compartment.
