The project

The Master Plan for the Mumbai metro along with its progressive implementation was developed by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), in collaboration with TATA Consultancy Services (TCS) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). The Master Plan, approved by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) in May 2004, includes 9 corridors covering 146.5 km of which 32.5 are underground.

The AICA consortium deals with:

  • Line 7: "Andheri (East) - Dahisar" (East) which includes an elevated section of 16.57 km and 14 stations.
  • Line 2B "D.N.Nagar - Mandala" which includes an elevated section of 23.64 km and 22 stations.

As a General Consultant, the consortium will perform the following services: design; assistance; construction; supervision; system integration; interface management; testing; management, and maintenance.

Expected benefits

The project is part of the broader infrastructure intervention to solve the dramatic traffic congestion problem in Mumbai, especially in the downtown area.
