A railwayman driving one of the largest Italian public companies, with a deep knowledge of the industrial machine and who cares deeply for both employees and passengers. After working for the Fiat Auto Group in the Marketing/Sales Department, Battisti joined the FS Group in 1998 as Head of Marketing and Yield Management for the Night Product. He then took on positions of increasing importance, including that of Marketing/Sales Director.

Later he became CEO of FS Sistemi Urbani, a company that takes care of enhancing the real estate assets of the entire FS Italiane Group.

Gianfranco Battisti, a graduate in Political Science and in International Economics and Management, has twenty years of experience within the FS Italiane Group and a prolonged knowledge of the daily labours of railway workers, especially those who work daily on behalf of travellers.

In the field of teaching and training, Battisti shared his managerial experience in the academic field at major Italian universities including Bocconi University, Luiss University and Sapienza University of Rome. The excellence of the high speed lines must also be replicated in regional transport: safety, quality, and efficiency of commuter rail transport are in fact among the priorities of the new CEO, which are combined with a focus on digital development, with a view to put those who choose the train at the centre of the company's core business and provide assistance and tools, thus ensuring an excellent travel experience. Among the challenges awaiting Gianfranco Battisti are full national railway interoperability and elevating the local and regional lines to the same safety standards as the Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (the National Grid Operator). Added to this is the integration between the railway system and other modes of transport; the development of logistics to offer an effective, convenient, and sustainable freight transport service; investments in the South, with measures aimed at reducing travel time and increasing the number of connections and the quality of services offered.

The distinctive features of the strategy adopted by the new CEO for the Group are: renewed attention to the commuting customer, digital development to meet the needs of travellers, investments in the South, and logistics and enhancement of company know-how.

Since November 2019 Ambassador for Women in Trasports for the promotion of diversity in the transport sector, an event promoted by the European Commission.
