Born in 1978, Francesco Quintano earned his degree in Business Economics and Management (2002) at the LUISS Guido Carli University in Rome – spending one academic year at the Aarhus Business School in Denmark – and in Law (2008) from Tor Vergata University in Rome. His first professional role came along in 2002 with the Finmeccanica Group – today’s Leonardo – in the role of Business Development for the Holding, taking part in key initiatives that characterised the Company’s inorganic growth path through to 2008.
Quintano became head of the Group’s Strategic Planning in 2012, taking on the responsibility of Project Management Officer for the Chief Executive Officer and General Manager from 2013 to 2014, in support of the upper echelons in the management and monitoring of the main projects of the Business Plan within the various corporate sectors (such as Electronics, Security, Space, Defence Systems, and more).
In 2015, Quintano became head of Strategies and New Initiatives, coordinating and managing the strategic planning process at a Group level, along with the activities of origination and development of alliances and partnerships and the multi-business projects that see the traversal involvement of multiple Operational Companies/Divisions.
As of 2015, Quintano became a board member of a number of national and international companies of the Group: (i) Selex Galileo, Inc. (2017 - 2019), an American company operating in the Defence electronics business; (ii) Thales Alenia Space S.p.A., a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%) operating in space manufacturing (2019 - 2020); and (iii) Distretto Tecnologico Aerospaziale S.c.a.r.l., in support of Research & Development projects, training and transfer of technological innovation.
Quintano was appointed Chief of Staff to the Managing Director in 2018.
In January 2020, he moved to Telespazio S.p.A. — a joint venture between Thales (33%) and Leonardo (67%), operating in the satellite services business — as head of International Coordination, Procurement and Risk Management.
As of July 2020, Quintano took on responsibility for the Central Directorate for Strategies, Planning, Innovation and Sustainability for the Gruppo Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane S.p.A.
From 2008 to 2011, Quintano was the assistant to Professor G. Zappa – General Director of Finmeccanica at the time – at the LUISS Guido Carli University for the course “Joint Ventures and International Alliances”.
From 2010 to 2011, Quintano also completed a legal traineeship at the Graziadei Law Firm.
