Methodology

The information contained in the 2016 Sustainability Report is compared with those of the two previous years. Any differences to previous Sustainability Reports are due to the improvement of the recording methods used.

Since 2011, we have used SuPM software (Sustainability Performance Management) to collect data, which now includes 17 companies operating in the Group, identified on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Materiality, i.e. the relevance of mutual impact (social, economic and environmental) between the main companies and stakeholders;
  • Control, i.e. the Group's ability to influence its activities.

The 2016 Sustainability Report was drafted in accordance with the "G4 Sustainability Reporting Guidance" drawn up in 2013 by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), using the Comprehensive reporting option to include the latest developments in sustainability reporting. The main objective of the report is to inform stakeholders about the progress made in terms of economic, environmental and social sustainability, according to the triple bottom line framework. The data and information published were provided by the relevant departments or were taken from other official sources.

The 2016 Report was examined by the Board of Directors of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane SpA at its meeting on 26 June 2017.
