New operational headquarters in Milan for Italferr, the engineering branch of the FS Italiane Group.

The new offices in the Lombardy capital, where the most important infrastructural and railway works projects in Northern Italy are managed, were inaugurated today in the presence of Claudia Maria Terzi, Councillor for Infrastructures, Transports, and Sustainable Mobility of the Lombardy Region, and Giuseppe Sala, Mayor of Milan.

Hosting the event were Renato Mazzoncini, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Gruppo FS Italiane, Riccardo Maria Monti Chairman of Italferr, and Carlo Carganico, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Italferr.

«Italferr is making a significant contribution to the international expansion of the FS Italiane Group, as envisaged in the 2017-2026 Business Plan, thanks to the design, construction supervision, and supervision activities taking place in over 20 countries around the world», remarked Renato Mazzoncini, CEO and General Manager of the FS Italiane Group. "But we must not forget the role that the engineering company has in Italy, where it deals with important strategic and infrastructural projects for our country", he concluded.

"Northern Italy is the crossroads for the great European railway corridors", underlined Carlo Carganico, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Italferr. «The Italferr office in Milan will also be the reference point and meeting point for international networking activities, within a modern and welcoming environment, which reflects a strong orientation towards innovation as a qualifying asset of the Company's renewed mission», concluded Carganico.

From the Milan office, Italferr currently oversees, for Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, the design and high-level supervision of infrastructural works currently carried out on the TEN-T Core Corridors (Trans European Network-Transport). On the Mediterranean Corridor, the Italian engineering company of FS Italiane is working on the design of the Italian section of the Turin-Lyon High Speed line, the Brescia/Verona and Verona-Vicenza lines, and the infrastructural and technological upgrading of the Brescia, Verona, and Vicenza hubs; on the Corridor of the Rhine-Alps, Italferr took over the works on the Third Pass and is engaged in the infrastructural and technological upgrading of the Genoa junction; on the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridor, Italferr is overseeing the design of priority interventions for the quadruplicating of the Fortezza-Verona line, the Southern access to the Brenner Base Tunnel.

Projects to improve Lombardy's railway services are also overseen in Milan, including the quadrupling of the Milan Rogoredo-Pavia line, the infrastructural and technological upgrading of the Gallarate-Rho and Ponte San Pietro-Bergamo-Montello lines, the railway link between Bergamo and the Orio al Serio airport, the doubling of the Codogno-Cremona-Mantova line and, in Veneto, the works for the railway connection with the Marco Polo airport in Venice.

As far as infrastructural upgrading operations are concerned, the Italferr office in Milan is currently also coordinating the works for the technological upgrading of the Turin-Padua, Bologna-Piacenza, Bologna-Padua, Monza-Chiasso, Genoa-Milan, Venezia Mestre-Venezia Santa Lucia, and Venezia Mestre-Ronchi de 'Legionari lines, in addition to the junctions in Turin, Milan, Udine, Verona, and Venice, and the connection to the national railway network in the ports of Genoa and Trieste.

Furthermore, Italferr has designed and will supervise the installation of the ERTMS system between Milan and Genoa and on the Turin-Villa Opicina line. The ERMTS is an advanced security system for the distancing of trains that allows managing and controlling rail traffic along the network and allows trains from different countries to circulate without interruption on all the European lines that are equipped with the system. The ERTMS standard has been chosen by the European Union as a unique language for the European railway system, given the excellent results achieved for the Turin-Salerno and Turin-Milan-Brescia High Speed system.
