President Ghezzi appointed member of the EIT Executive Committee

Appointed by the European Commission to be part of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology

Rome, 14th May 2018

Gioia Ghezzi, President of FS Italiane, has been appointed by the European Commission as a new member of the European Institute of innovation and Technology’s (EIT) Executive Committee.

Gioia Ghezzi’s knowledge and experience, together with her role as President of FS Italiane, a company of extraordinary industrial and technological complexity, and her work on sustainable development and Smart Cities with Assolombarda-Confindustria, will be of enormous support in working towards the objectives that the EIT must reach over the coming years.

In fact, the Institute is tasked with identifying, co-financing and coordinating technological activities through integrated actions of higher-education training, research and innovation. Its mission is to contribute to the competitiveness of Europe, together with sustainable growth and the creation of jobs in rapidly-expanding sectors that are of vital importance for the development of the entire continent.

The EIT is an integral part of Horizon2020, a European framework program for Research and Innovation, promoting cooperation between companies, educational institutions and research organisations so that these synergies can drive creative thinking and all forms of innovation and entrepreneurship.

«I am honoured to become part of the EIT board and I have always believed that Innovation and Technology are essential drivers of economic growth and the creation of jobs. Together with my EIT colleagues, we will continue with our commitment to transparent and targeted investments so that Europe remains at the forefront of technological innovation, helping start-ups and entrepreneurs in the development of their business activities. Thank you to all of those who supported my candidacy».

Two others were appointed as new members of the board at the same time as the President of FS Italiane: Romana Jordan and Agnès Paillard.
