We are involved in research and development, promoting railway innovation and technology, as for example with the new high-speed train, Frecciarossa 1000, and the new fleet of regional trains. With the application of Trenitalia's new summer timetable in June 2017, the use of two trains coupled together that can carry over 900 passeggeri travelling at 300 km/h.
The recently inaugurated Naples Afragola High-Speed Train Station, is a modern and functional piece of infrastructure that focuses on implementing high-velocity services and on developing the local area, with particular attention paid to integrated mobility. With the activation of the second phase scheduled for 2022, the new stop will become the interchange hub between the Turin – Salerno high-speed line, the new Naples – Bari line, the local Circumvesuviana network and regional trains to and from Caserta, Benevento and Naples North Afragola.
As far as regional transport is concerned, in 2016, Trenitalia closed the procedures for the most important call to tender on providing commuter trains. The deal will see the creation of a fleet of 450 new convoys which have high-level technology, with safety systems which are amongst the advanced in the world and cutting-edge solutions in terms of comfort and on-board information. So from 2020 commuters will be able to travel on diesel trains so as to improve our industrial performance, in terms of punctuality, regularity, train cleanliness, security and information.
We have also always been very attentive to the question of safety, and have equipped our network and trains with some of the most modern technology in the world. These are solutions and devices which are extremely innovative, including SAP®'s IoT technology, which are a model of operational excellence, and ensure a more effective, sustainable and quick travel experience. Big Data, hyperconnectivity and the optimisation of application processes to predictive maintenance, contribute, amongst other things to the reduction of operational costs and to optimising vehicle life cycles.
But safety of the moving train isn't the only area where we are active on a daily basis. The issue of the safety of people and personnel on board and in the station sees us similarly involved at first hand. Over the past three years positive results have been achieved thanks to the strengthening of video camera systems to protect railway access gates.
