EXPO Milano 2015

Gruppo FS Italiane has organised a series of initiatives to guarantee the mobility of millions of visitors from Italy and abroad, one-third of whom will probably take the train to reach the station dedicated to this event, Rho Fiera Expo Milano 2015.

Organisation includes a widespread rail network, innovative services for travellers both in stations and on trains and substantial support in promoting the event through corporate communication channels. A more detailed explanation of Gruppo FS’s commitment was provided by FS Italiane CEO Michele Mario Elia, together with Minister of Infrastructures and Transport Maurizio Lupi during a joint press conference at the Expo delle Idee in Milan on 7 February.

Throughout the six-month duration of the Event, FS Italiane will be present in the exhibition pavilions to promote and encourage people to use the train as a sustainable means of transport. The entire High Speed system will be improved: Milan will be reached by 236 trains a day, 148 of which Freccia Trains, on the whole offering 130 thousand seats per day on national and international connections. Every day, 19 Frecciarossa and 18 Frecciabianca trains will stop at the Rho Fiera Expo Milano 2015 station, whereas the Frecciarossa 1000 will make its debut on the day of Expo inauguration on 1 May.

Rail services with connections outside Italy have been increased: passengers from France can arrive directly at Rho Fiera Expo Milano 2015 station with the Thello Paris-Venice train and international connections with Switzerland will increase through 8 new trains leaving Geneva, Basil and Lugano and 14 new stops at Rho Fiera.

Intermodality with other means of transport will also be supported thanks to integrated travel packages and specific offers to get to the event location. As of 26 April, 18 new trains per day will travel between Milan Central and Milan Porta Garibaldi Stations and Malpensa Airport which, added to current scheduled trains, will ensure an overall number of 70 daily connections between Malpensa Airport and these two stations in Milan.

Tourists can take advantage of the Speciale Expo offer entailing a 20% reduction on all domestic journeys. There are also additional special rates for school groups and foreign visitors. There is a special “Made of Italians” offer for foreign visitors and Italians living abroad entailing a number of benefits for those planning to travel in Italy. Entrance tickets to the exhibition can be purchased by credit card online at the Trenitalia website, all ticket offices, in partner travel agencies and in FRECCIA clubs.
