Activation of the Cervaro – Bovino line

Inauguration of the Bovino-Cervaro line: Graziano Delrio; Clemente Mastella; Maurizio Gentile

On 28th June, the first section of the Cervaro – Bovino line was made operational. In the future this will link Naples to Bari in two hours, along the TEN-T Scandinavian-Mediterranean European corridor.
It was opened to rail traffic after the Government Commissioner was appointed, and following the passing of the Sblocca Italia (Unblock Italy Law).

Around 270 million euros was invested in Puglia for the new rail link between Cervaro and Bovino. Starting in September, the speed limit will be raised from 150 km/h to 200 km/h, with the use of ACC-M technology to ensure distances between trains.

As far as safety is concerned, a second line has been laid over the first 23 km so as to ensure a more reliable, regular and punctual rail service, and at the same time greater passenger and goods capacity.

The Infrastructure and Transport Minister Graziano Delrio and the CEO and Director General of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana Maurizio Gentile joined the inaugural journey on board a train from Foggia to Benevento, together with representatives from local institutions.
