Frecciarossa 1000: speeding towards the future

The Super-train that Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane decided to dedicate to Pietro Mennea celebrates the name of the Italy’s all-time fastest runner and will ensure his name continues to race throughout Italy and Europe

Designed to reach a top speed of 400 km/h and commercial speed of 360 km/h, the Frecciarossa 1000 is currently certified to run at 300 km/h.

This new Trenitalia train can accelerate from zero to 300 km/h in just 4 minutes and it is distinguished by 16 powerful engines distributed throughout its 8 carriages, making it a train with distributed traction that always makes the most of adherence with the tracks. The Frecciarossa 1000 has special bogies ensuring it can always counterbalance the centrifugal force from High Speed and an excellent power-to-weight ratio due to special light alloys used to build the shells and interior fittings.

Every detail, commencing with the cab profile, has been studied and refined to reduce aerodynamic resistance, thereby guaranteeing safety and comfort for train drivers and passengers alike.

Journey times between all the main cities reached by the HS network will be further reduced, thereby making trains even more competitive with respect to planes, coaches and cars.
