The Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group is the largest single energy consumer in Italy, and accounts for about 1% of the Italian energy budget and approximately 2% of the electric component alone.

We therefore have a great responsibility, which we embrace through the constant quest to improve the use of energy resources and by developing energy production from renewable sources.

The use of photovoltaic energy, in particular, is growing, and in 2012 the Rome San Lorenzo photovoltaic plant (active since March 2008) - which produced 637 MWh in 2012 - was flanked by the plant at Turin's Porta Susa high-speed railway station, capable of producing 680 MWh of energy per year.
